Is it really worth being self-disciplined?
A lot of people think that self discipline is painful and that it restricts one's life.
[00:00] Hi, this is Mike Pettigrew, serial entrepreneur, and bestselling author and I have a question for you. Discipline - self discipline; is it really worth it?[00:08] I remember - certainly when I was younger, anytime I heard the word self discipline, I would literally shudder in fear because I had no self discipline and it's one of those scary words. It's one of those words - when I see it on a page, it still brings up feelings of "ugh". Words have power and self discipline - it's actually - you know what? It's a lot easier than you may think.[00:35] If you look out into society, and look at the world's most accomplished people - you may think that they have huge self discipline, but that's not the case. They have a certain amount of self discipline - in a select few areas of life. High-Performers the world's most accomplished people, highest achievers, highly successful people are not highly self disciplined. They are not.[01:02] They simply use habits that move the needle the most. They adopt a few disciplines in a select few areas of life and those few self disciplines carry them very, very, very far. And for example, type of self discipline I have that enables me to accomplish a lot each day is to do a basic, a Qigong routine. It's a high performance routine it takes only three minutes. And I tap various parts of my body. I breathe at various points in and out quite strongly and the effect of that - only for three minutes. And I do this every 60 to 90 minutes as I move through the day, the effect of that is that when I go back to my desk, back to my work, I have a lot more energy. I'm a lot more enthusiastic. My focus is brought back.[02:02] I've more aliveness. And let's face it, as we go through the day, we generally lose energy. But imagine what it would be like if you could replenish your energy as you move through the day. And this simple routine allows me to do that. So that's one example. It might appear that I'm highly self disciplined. I'm not, but doing that one little discipline every 90 minutes - it only takes two to three minutes. The quality of my day, it's totally different. I get so much more done. I eliminate stress and burnout.
