Hi, this is Mike Pettigrew, serial entrepreneur and bestselling author and I've a question for you. How would you like to be able to think like a genius? I know that sounds like a big statement to make - or a big question to ask - how can anyone think like a genius? Surely certain people are born with genius and other people are not? Well, you know what? You have a part of your mind called your subconscious mind - that is an avenue to unlimited creative ideas.

It is possible for anyone to think like a genius. All you need to do is know how to do it. For example, Thomas Edison, the inventor - he was able to tap into his subconscious mind very easily. If anytime he was stumped by a question that he just couldn't find the answer to - a technical problem while he was trying to invent something and he just couldn't figure it out with his conscious mind is conscious awareness.

He'd hand it over to his subconscious mind - because he knew that the subconscious mind of every human being is connected to unlimited wisdom. And I've tested this myself. What Edison did was - he would go take cat naps - he would take cat naps. He would fall asleep for 30 minutes or an hour and just before going to sleep, he would firmly plant in his mind the problem that he had - to which he needed a solution. He requested of his subconscious mind - his inner wisdom - his inner genius that he expected a solution on awakening. And he fully got himself into a state where he fully believed that he was going to get an answer. And you know what? In so many cases - so many cases he would waken up after 30 minutes or one hour having the exact solution to the technical problem that he needed. Amazing!

I've tried this myself many, many, many times, but this isn't the only way to tap into this unlimited creative genius within you. Mindmapping is another way and mind mapping is fantastic. It's a fantastic and simple way to get your creative process operating. So for example, if you are setting a goal or project that you're trying to achieve - you write the name of the project on your mind map - and you can use software - or you can do this on a piece of paper. There are lots of mind mapping software available - a lot of it free, but you can do this on a simple, A4 sheet of paper. Write the name of the project or the goal in the center. And then you obviously want to know what the stepping stones are to achieving that goal are, or bringing that project to fruition.

Just write down on the page anywhere - all the ideas that come to you that will help you to achieve that goal or project. So on your piece of paper, just write any ideas that come to you in relation to your project or goal - the stepping stones or things you need to do to bring it to fruition. And you know what? The act of doing this brings more creative ideas to the surface.

You may start with only one or two action steps or things that you need to do, but if you use a mind map, if you create a mind map - very quickly - in 30 minutes or so, you'll have lots of new ideas you wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Mind mapping is a way of stimulating your creativity, getting the creative flow, working. A lot of people who are writers - they suffer from writer's block, but you know what? It's possible to overcome that too - it's possible to get the creative process kickstarted again and it happens when you take action.

If you just wait for creativity or wisdom or genius to appear, it won't. When you start taking action - it's like switch - flicking a switch. And after that switch is flicked, the process begins.
