And I get this. This is really frustrating. For many years I tried to get ahead.

All I experienced was setbacks and it's so easy to give up. It's so easy to give up and if you've experienced this yourself, I completely relate. And one of the biggest reasons why people don't get ahead is because they lose focus. How focused are you? Are you focused on achieving a better life? Now, it's not possible to be focused all of the time, but it's just not humanly possible. But studies have shown that people who are more focused, they achieve a better life. They have more success, more freedom, more happiness, more wealth. But if you have a great lack of focus, if you find that you're constantly being buffeted around by your environment, well unfortunately things don't go as planned, at least usually. So focus is really important to get ahead. So how do you become focused? How do you become focused? Instead of being literally, we live in the age of mass distraction.

We live in an age where we're bombarded by social media messages and advertising to how in the midst all of this, how do we remain focused? Well, it starts with becoming clear on what you want. If you're crystal clear what you want, chances are you will be more focused. But if you're not sure what you want, you will drift. Because people who are clear on what they want and set their set goals regularly. Studies have found that they get ahead much more quickly than people who are not clear on what they want and who don't set goals. So that's the number one factor you need to become clear on what you want. Number two is you've got to then once you know what your goals are, once you know what your final destination is, what you really want to achieve, the next step is to break down your goals into action steps.

So how do you do that? How do you break down your goals into action steps? A lot of people come to me and they've got these wonderful visions for their lives, for the future. They want to achieve all sorts of amazing things, but often it's overwhelming. Where do they start? Where do they start? What's the first stepping stone? Well, I'll share with you a very simple way to map out those action steps when you, you're setting a big goal, maybe some years into the future that you plan to achieve it. It's very hard to, as I say, to to know what the first step is. Well if you use mind mapping, oh, mind mapping is wonderful. It's just a gift to humanity mind mapping. It's simply you can do this on paper. You can use software. There's plenty of mind mapping software available if you do a Google search, but when you break, if you write, if you use a piece of paper as an example, write down your goal in the center of the page and write down anywhere on the page ideas that come to you that will help you to progress that goal.

Now the amazing thing with mind mapping is it stimulates your creative flow. So if you only have a couple of ideas about what your action steps might be right now to achieve that big goal, when you do mind mapping, many of the blanks are filled in because it kickstarts your creative process. Mind mapping is amazing. You've got to use mind mapping and the next thing you've got to do to remain focused is you've got to time block. You've got to do time blocking. A few years ago, the last time I wrote a bestseller, a book that became a best seller. I blocked time every day to write that book undistracted. I'd switch off the radio, I'd switch off my phone, I'd switch off social media, email. And I would block time, two hours every morning with no distractions. And you know what? When you block time, you can progress your goals so much more quickly.

Now you can block time a little bit every day or a few times a week or one entire week where you're just dedicated to one thing, maybe writing a book. So those are three tips that can help you achieve your goals so much more quickly and get rid of distraction, help you be more focused.
