Everybody faces self-doubt at some point, and in this video we will look at why that is, and what you can do about it.
As Henry Ford once said: "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right". So if you believe you can't achieve something, you won't be able to achieve it.
Self-doubt is your absolute enemy and it prevents people from experiencing the biggest opportunities in life.

Hi, this is Mike Pettigrew, best selling author and serial entrepreneur since 1987 and I help ordinary people achieve extraordinary goals, but not in the way you might think. Now in this next - in this short video, and in the next few minutes we're going to look at how to overcome self doubt. Because let's face it, everybody faces self-doubt at some point. Something you want to achieve and you just doubt your ability to achieve it. And that's, you know, like that can stop people from achieving wonderful goals and really worthwhile things in life. So the fact is really your beliefs determine your abilities, your beliefs determine your abilities. Because as Henry Ford - this guy here, as he once said: "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right". Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right - your beliefs determine everything. So if you believe you can't achieve something, you won't be able to achieve it.
If you believe well, it just might be possible, much greater chance that you'll be able to achieve it. So your beliefs determine your abilities. So people sabotage their goals all the time. The self sabotage, it stops people achieving wonderful lives. And it - really, it holds you back from really from living a rich life, okay, really holds you back. Self-doubt is your absolute enemy and it prevents people from experiencing the big opportunities in life. And opportunity may come along and because of your own self doubt, you may give in to that and that opportunity that was just waiting for you, you won't have grasped it, nothing will have really changed. And also self-doubt stops you achieving worthwhile goals. If you have great goals in life, you will have to encourage yourself to overcome it. But if you've got very small goals in life, you know you won't encounter much self doubt because you believe you'll be able to achieve them.
But I think it's so important in life to really stretch our inner selves. And when we stretch our own inner realm of possibility, our external world reflects that. So basically as one person once said, if you want to achieve any goal, you can achieve it only by a certain degree of inner change. When you change inside, your environment reflects that change. So this is fact now, this is fact - your current circumstances and abilities do not dictate your future. They do not dictate your future because you can learn new skills, you can learn new ways of doing things. Your situation - even if it's dire right now, will change providing you do certain things. There was a time in my life I lost everything. I couldn't feed my wife or our baby son who had just been born. It was horrendous. But I changed that by using the power of gratitude.
And I've made other - many other videos about the power of gratitude. So I'm not going to go into that in much detail, but this is really the, the core of this - your current circumstances and abilities do not dictate your future. There have been countless stories of people who've gone from abject poverty and terrible loss to achieving amazing things. So every - you have the ability to change your situation and achieve anything you want. But it all depends on how you believe. Okay? So here are a few little things, little strategies you might say that you can use whenever you experience self doubt. So when you experience self doubt - do these things. Number one, realize that successful people ask themselves "what if" instead of "I can't". And if somebody comes along to you and says: "Do you want to achieve such and such" and you think, "Oh, I'd love to, but I can't".
That's the time to ask yourself "What if - what if it were possible?". Because you know the, "I can't" closes the door, but the "What if" just opens the possibility and that possibility can grow. So everything starts with a "What if". Highly successful people ask different questions to unsuccessful people. Okay? And also consider what could happen by not giving up. Okay? You encounter a setback, a challenge. You're doubting your ability to overcome it. But consider for a moment what could happen if you don't give up. Write it all down. Write all of this down whenever you experience self doubt type, while trying to achieve your goal. What could happen if I continue forwards? And you'll find, you'll find that there'll be all sorts of great reasons for moving forwards once again and also start feeding your mind with daily positive motivation. We all need motivation.
We can't exist in a vacuum. We all need motivation and inspiration because there are times in everyone's life where there are all sorts of setbacks and challenges and things go wrong and a lot of frustration, disillusionment. Unless you're feeding your mind every day with motivation and inspiration, you can sink. You can gradually sink into a sense of powerlessness and just expecting more bad stuff to happen. The only way to counteract that is to pick up the works of great people, people who have achieved amazing things in life. So look, look out for mentors. Choose carefully, okay. And also take a small step forward each day because you know what? Action equals momentum and that equals expanded possibilities. So just the act of moving forwards, just even if it's only a baby step, that gives you extra energy and motivation and momentum and makes small things become huge.
Everything starts small. You can achieve anything just by taking that first small step or taking the next step.
