If you look at the lives of highly successful people, you will find that self confidence determines everything. Hi, this is Mike Pettigrew. I'm a best selling author and a serial entrepreneur since 1987 and I help ordinary people to achieve extraordinary goals, but probably not in the way you might think. So what is the relationship between confidence and success? Well, success comes from confidence. If you don't, if you're not confident, it's very hard to achieve anything. But you know what? Confidence comes from baby steps. Confidence comes from baby steps and so many people come to me, they're looking to get ahead in life to achieve their life's biggest dreams and they've tried all sorts of things and they reach the point where in many cases they feel they're a failure because nothing seems to work. And if you, if you've experienced this yourself, I completely relate to it because in my late teens and early twenties I had so many setbacks.

I was trying all sorts of different goal achievement systems. I was trying to get ahead in life and I just kept hitting roadblocks one after another and after another. And you know when you have a series of setbacks, you can reach the point where you think there's no point anymore. There's no point in even trying because you're setting yourself up for disillusionment. There's nothing worse than feeling disempowered. There's nothing worse than feeling that all the time and energy and efforts you're putting into something just will have no effect. What's the point? But you know what? Confidence, as I said at the beginning, actually create success. Your success comes from confidence - so how do you, how do you become much more confident? Well, it comes from achieving small goals. As I say - baby steps add up to - repeated baby steps, add up to huge results.

So everything starts with setting a small goal and when you achieve that goal, you can go on to set a bigger goal. And when you achieve that, your confidence will grow. Now at the beginning of goal achievement, achieving your goals, it's very hard to have confidence in yourself for many people, but you can have confidence in the system, the system providing its a good system, you can have confidence in the system - then when that system gives you results, your own belief in your own ability grows. That's confidence. So back, uh, you know, at the beginning of my my career, I certainly didn't have any self confidence. I was the kid who was always the last to be picked for a football or rugby team or sports team - I was being always told Pettigrew is useless - we don't want him on our team. And when you hear that enough, you reach the point where you think you're useless at everything.

And that's certainly describes how I used to be. But by developing confidence through small efforts consistently, everything changed. Everything changed. I sold my first company to, uh, a multinational in 2001, and that was my first real, really big success. That was a very successful company, but I couldn't have achieved that if I hadn't actually started making little efforts. And repeated those efforts and they add up. I assure you, I think what stops a lot of people from even getting started is that they, they look at their goals and if they have any big dreams, they'll think, how am I going to start this? It's going to be so difficult and or they're not sure what steps they need to take and that's completely understandable. But when you use a powerful goal achievement system that has - uses scientific principles that have been scientifically proved to work - habits, strategies, techniques that have been scientifically proved to work.
