What to Do When You Feel Discouraged

Everyone feels discouraged at some point when things don't go as planned, or when obstacles seem to appear from nowhere.

Have you ever felt discouraged? Or experienced a setback where you start doubting your ability to get what you want? Everyone feels discouraged at some point when things don't go as planned, or when obstacles seem to appear from nowhere.

However, what you do at such times is critical. Get motivated, and start moving forwards again with greater confidence, energy, vitality and determination.

Hi, this is Mike Pettigrew, bestselling author and serial entrepreneur since 1987 and I help ordinary people achieve extraordinary goals, but not in the way you might think. Now in this short video, we're going to look at what to do when you feel discouraged. Do you ever feel discouraged? Do you ever go for your goals or try to achieve something? And it's just - you experience setbacks and you end up feeling really disencouraged -discouraged and disempowered. We all do. Everybody does. But what's - what you do at those times where you feel discouraged is of huge importance. Okay? So we'll look at the - several ways to - to overcome the times when you're discouraged. Okay? So first of all, do these things. These are very, very simple strategies and tools. Firstly, acknowledge how you feel. Don't suppress it, and think ah you know - just push it away. No, no, no.

Get a piece of paper and pen. Write down and acknowledge how you feel, how it makes you feel, this feeling of discouragement, why, why it's happening, what's, what's stopping you and how it's making you feel. Very, very simple. So it's important, first of all, to acknowledge it. Secondly, then deeply realize that all worthwhile goals have setbacks. You know, if you study the lives of the most influential people in the world, the people who have transformed society, if you study their lives, they've had enormous setbacks. In fact, the most success - the more successful someone is the more setbacks they've had, and you know, highly successful people fail more than most people. So don't let stumbling at the first hurdle stop you. Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and keep going. Just realize that other people have been discouraged as well, but they've kept going. Okay, so all worthwhile goals have setbacks.

Third, do gratitude exercise. Do a gratitude exercise because it opens the door of possibility. Once again, I've talked about gratitude in so many of my videos and gratitude really opens the door. It's like a magnet. It pulls into your life all sorts of amazing possibilities, but resentment and complaint and begrudging a situation just keeps everything pushed away. It keeps the doors of possibility closed. So do a simple gratitude exercise. You'll feel very differently after doing it. That - that sense of feeling discouraged will start to shrink. Also, write - this is a great one. Write out 10 reasons why you must keep moving forwards. This is a way of squeezing out of your own mind - tapping into your subconscious mind, mind tapping into your own inner wisdom. Do this write - force yourself to write out 10 reasons why you must keep moving forwards. And you know what? Ideas will come to you that you hadn't thought of before.

You'll come up with all sorts of really strong reasons that you may not have even considered. Do this. The act of doing it stimulates your creativity and you find amazing ways. In fact, you'll probably find you, you can really come up with 20 reasons for why you must keep moving forward, but 10 is enough. So also write out your 10 life's biggest goals. Focusing on the bigger things that you want to achieve in your life can get you excited again and you'll want that excitement - because it can - it can reduce the feelings of being discouraged dramatically. Very simple, very simple things. One other thing - stay motivated by reading the words of great people. Everyone on this planet, no matter what they achieve in life will feel discouraged multiple times. We all do at various different junctures, but when we are constantly reading the words of great people it - it means that we will be discouraged a lot less and at times when we are feeling discouraged, it will pick us up and get the momentum moving again.
