Hi, my name is Mike Pettigrew. I'm a bestselling author. I'm a serial entrepreneur since 1987 and I help ordinary people to achieve extraordinary goals, but perhaps not in the way you might think. Now a lot of people come to me and they tell me that, you know, they try to get ahead in life. They try to achieve their next level of success and abundance and wealth and they experience setbacks. They experience things that seem to stop them again and again. But you know what? It turns out a lot of people - they kind of expect things won't go their way.
And as Henry Ford said, "Whether you believe you can or you believe you can't, you're right", because you know what? What you expect will happen if you constantly expect something to happen and you give a lot of emotional power to it, it will happen. It's like you magnetize into your environment all the sorts of things that you expect because your dominant thoughts and your dominant emotions actually create the circumstances of your life. And this is a very hard reality. And I experienced years ago, I lost everything. I reached the point where I, I'd made some really bad investments and I trusted the wrong people. After a couple of years I reached the point where I had no money to feed my wife or our baby who had just been born. It was incredibly frightening. And I really reached the point where I finally realized that I was perpetuating the whole situation because I was expecting more bad stuff to happen and I was feeding it with negative emotion and negative belief.
And it's almost like I was locked into a vicious circle. So what you expect with emotion creates your reality. Hard, tough lesson, but it's fact. So how do you change your beliefs? How do you change your expectations? Because let's face it, we have all been conditioned from the time we're born. As we go through life, we're being conditioned all the time or being told what to believe. We're told what not to believe. We're told that we're capable of this and we're not capable of that. And a lot of this is bs. And by the time most people reached their early, well, their late twenties they've had so many disappointments and failures in life that they close down their realm of possibility. And this is so sad because then it becomes a vicious circle. That just perpetuates. And I see this all the time. So many people come to me and they tell me that they want to achieve great things.
But when I question them, they have all these limiting beliefs, they don't believe it's even possible. So what do you do to open the doors again, the doors that have been closed for years. How do you do to start dreaming big again, but not just dreaming, but dreaming big and taking actions that you know will have results? Well, the first thing I tell people, uh, who explain how they have all these beliefs that they just can't achieve their goals. First thing I tell them is you've got to, well of course change your beliefs. So how do you do that? Well, the power - there's an amazing way of reprogramming your mind. There are many actually, but one of those ways is using the power of affirmations. So affirmations are positive, empowering statements you make to yourself aloud, morning and evening with emotion. You probably heard the most famous one, I think it was the original affirmation by a Emile Coue.
"Every day in every way, I'm getting better and better". And I think he worked in a psychiatric hospital and he had psychiatric patients and he got his patients to repeat this phrase "every day in every way I'm getting better and better". And many of them did dramatically because it started reprogramming their subconscious mind to believe they were getting better. So when you repeat something with emotion, it embeds in your subconscious mind and your subconscious mind controls everything that happens to you. So if you want to see a different change in your world, you've got to change what's inside first. So that's number one. So first of all, that that affirmations are awesomely powerful, but you need to know what sort of affirmations to create to start with. Does it? So to do this, you need to become aware of your current limiting beliefs. What are your limiting beliefs that are holding you back the most?
We all have different limiting beliefs, lots of limiting beliefs. They could be limiting beliefs in relation to our career. It could be in relation to relationships, it could be in relation to money, all sorts of things. So how do you become aware of your limiting beliefs? Well, in many of my other videos I've explained very simple exercise, how to root out, how to uncover your limiting beliefs, and then how to change them using the power of affirmations. And it's, it's really just - in summary, for example, if you are constantly, if you constantly find at the end of the month, you just don't have any money leftover and your finances are not increasing and there's no, it looks like they will never increase, then you've obviously got some limiting beliefs surrounding money. So to do this simple exercise, you just, you write down and you read out loud, I can't become rich because I'm the first thing that comes into your mind.
Write it down. No matter how crazy it may appear, and you do this 10 times, "I can't become rich because" - the first thing that comes to your mind, write it down. So you say it out loud "I can't become rich because", and then first thing that comes to your mind, write it down. You need to do this quickly because you're looking for your subconscious beliefs, not your conscious ones. And then once you've come up with 10 limiting beliefs, you can then there's a way of, of, uh, giving each limiting belief a number. The higher, the more emotion that's associated with the limiting belief. Give it a higher number, seven, eight, nine, 10. Limiting beliefs that don't have much emotion behind it - just give it a lower number, one, two, three, four. But you come up with your four top limiting beliefs, the ones that are, have emotional power.
And then you convert each one of them into its opposite. And I go through this in detail in my bestseller, the most powerful goal achievement system in the world and in lots of my videos. And then you convert the new positive, empowering beliefs into affirmations. Really simple process works really powerfully. So this is an amazing technique. So simple, but once again, so often the simplest things are the most profound things that really have the biggest effect.
